  • How often should I have my small engine serviced?

We recommend having your small engine serviced once every 12 months. All small engines use petroleum-based products, which contains additives that break down and settle. This can cause sludge or gummy residue, which in turn causes problems in the engine. However, during a service this is cleaned out and minimises any potential problems in the future.

  • How do I tell if my mower is 2 or 4-stroke?

The easiest way of knowing whether your small engine is a 2 or 4-stroke is with the number of fill ports for oil and petrol.

If there is a single fill port for both oil and petrol, the engine is a 2-stroke. If there are multiple, then you're working with a 4-stroke engine.

  • Do you work on ride-on mowers?

Yes, we do. At Lighthouse Mower & Boat Service, we work on all types of mowers, from simple push mowers to large ride-on or industrial grass-cutting machines. We can even come to you and repair the engine of your mower at your home or business.

  • Will using your services void my warranty?

No, it won't. under consumer laws, it won't automatically void your warranty to have a non-dealership company service your engine. In addition, all of our services are carried out superior care and attention to detail, so as to not void any warranties.

  • How do I know if my engine needs a service?

While we recommend regular servicing every 12 months, it's not uncommon for things to happen before that time—particularly if it is an older model. Be sure to keep an eye out for drops in efficiency, and other sudden changes.
